Why flat fee matters

Most legal recruiters charge 20–25% of first-year salary. Which means they earn more the more you pay.

We don't. We charge one flat fee, published up front, that doesn't change when the salary does. So we have no reason to talk an associate's package up — we're simply trying to find you the right person.

Typical local recruiter

  • 20–25% of first-year salary
  • Generalists placing across every sector
  • Fee rises with the salary they negotiate
  • 90-day guarantee
  • Pricing on request

Goodwork

  • Flat fee, from $9,000 USD
  • Assessments built for legal accuracy
  • Same fee whatever the salary
  • 6-month guarantee
  • Prices published on this page

"A bad hire is expensive for a firm my size. The assessments are built so candidates can't fake them with AI, and the support carried on long after she started. It was a leap of faith — and Goodwork made it all possible."

The process

Rigorous. End-to-end. Quality guaranteed.

Legal work has no tolerance for the wrong hire. Our recruiters spend around 100 hours on each campaign, testing written accuracy and attention to detail with assessments built to be AI-resistant — so what you're seeing is the candidate's ability, not a chatbot's.

1

A rich application built for your role — CV, LinkedIn, role-specific written questions, and language and communication samples. Every applicant answers the same questions so you can compare fairly.

2

Every application is reviewed. Our team builds a shortlist and actively advocates for strong candidates you might have passed over.

3

A 20-minute video screening call with every shortlisted candidate — professionalism, communication, compensation alignment, and anything that didn't come through in writing.

4

Your interviews, coordinated by our team — on-site or by video, structured with evidence-based guides we provide.

5

A custom practical assessment designed for the role: auto-graded take-home test with anti-AI safeguards, or a paid trial. We help design, structure, and coordinate it. Tests evaluate hard skills and the soft skills that matter for the role. Local candidates are compensated for their time.

6

Professional reference checks from past managers. Then an onboarding call from our team before they start.

Common questions

Which legal roles do you place?

Both qualified lawyers and the teams around them: associates, in-house and general counsel, paralegals, law clerks, legal administrators and assistants, legal bookkeepers, client intake coordinators, and conveyancing support. We match the profile to your practice area and workflow.

Which markets do you recruit in?

North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the EU. If you need someone in a specific city or region, tell us and we'll build the campaign around it.

How do you test for accuracy?

Every shortlisted candidate completes a practical assessment built for the role — written accuracy, attention to detail, and role-specific tasks. The assessments are designed to be AI-resistant, so you're seeing the candidate's own work rather than a chatbot's.

How is this different from a legal recruiter?

Most agencies charge 20–25% of first-year salary and give you a 90-day guarantee. We charge a flat fee and guarantee six months. We also publish our prices, which almost nobody does.

What does the flat fee cover?

Everything: the search, the full vetting process, shortlist delivery, reference checks, and the guarantee. Nothing scales with salary.

What's the guarantee?

Six months. If the hire doesn't work out in that window, we run the search again. Most legal recruiters guarantee 90 days.

How long does it take?

Around six weeks. We don't cut corners to go faster — the process is what makes the guarantee worth anything.

What's the difference between Professional and Executive?

Professional covers associates, paralegals, clerks, administrators and bookkeepers. Executive covers senior lawyers, in-house counsel, practice managers and firm administrators, where the pool is narrower and the search runs deeper.

Tell us the role. We'll find the person for your firm.
